Description
55% pinot noir, 45% chardonnay, 5 day maceration. Barrel fermented and aged for 12 months in neutral oak. Indigenous yeasts, low sulfur, unfined, unfiltered.
Bright, savoury, pretty, stony and fresh. Drinks like a very light red. Best served chilled but not cold.
Notes from the 2022 vintage:
"An unlikely still red blend of 50% pinot noir, 50% chardonnay, made with minimal intervention using indigenous yeast, low sulphur, and unfiltered so expect a touch of cloudiness. Barrel fermented and aged for 10 months for a very subtle flavour infusion. Pours a notably pale, claret colour. Features a clean aromatic profile of cherry, red apple, lightly bruléed persimmon, and pink peppercorn. With balanced acidity, slippery tannins and a memorable hibiscus note on the finish of very good length. Modern and emblematic of the ethereal style that can be found in Prince Edward County from young fruit, this small-lot, non-VQA blend is an elegant, stylish and effortlessly drinkable find. Drink now. Tasted February 2024. 90 points"

"Stoss Lee is the newest project to emerge from Prince Edward County, a small, 2-acre vineyard and orchard run by Montreal restaurateur Kyle Nares and sister Zoe Marshall Nares, so named for the geologic feature on which the vineyard sits, a glacially deposited hill of gravels, clays and sands that has two slopes, the north 'Stoss' side and the south 'Lee' side. This first release is an uncommon blend of half each pinot noir and chardonnay (and not sparkling), farmed and crafted with minimal intervention to produce a light, juicy, deep rosé (or light red) with a notable flinty-reductive edge in the post-modern style. It's clean and more stony than fruity, though some blood orange and tart red cherry flavours emerge. I like the succulence and the gentle salinity that draw one back for additional sips. A natural wine made without defects, and an exciting addition to the PEC scene. I look forward to following this project. Drink now, with a chill, or hold short term. Tasted February 2024. 89 points"
